New Mexico, Part II
As promised, here is the next chapter in my photoblogs of New Mexico. All of these were captured at the Bitter Lakes National Wildlife Refuge outside of Roswell, NM. Unless you consider the penultimate photo to be a potential crop circle, there was no evidence of aliens :-)
After a long, cold Virginia winter, the 80 degree weather at the refuge seemed scalding and landed me with a minor sunburn. After that I got smarter and wore sunscreen.
The refuge - like all refuges I've been to from California to Maine - was beautiful and shared with minimal visitors. The peak season for this particular refuge occurred a few weeks prior and so we had it almost to ourselves for several hikes. The salt flats in the area lend an interesting quality to several photos where you'll see milky salt deposits strewn across the ground.
